The highly anticipated residential development of Avalon has broken
ground. An earthly paradise is being created on one of the most
beautiful properties in Williamson County, Tennessee. Overlooking the
kingdom of Cool Springs, Avalon is poised amid hills and woodlands
reminiscent of the mythical land of Sherwood Forest.
"I have always wanted to live on a hill with a dramatic view," says
developer Richard Johnson. "There are places in Avalon where you can see
40 miles away. The views are so expansive you can actually see a weather
system develop and watch it move across the region." Both Johnson and
partner David Schwab plan to build their personal homes in Avalon.

Schwab, who has a background in environmental science, says, "The
property definitely has a lot of character. As you drive through the
natural hills and valleys, you can envision the legendary paradise of
King Arthur and his loyal knights."
"When we first started exploring the property, the land was basically
untouched," Schwab says. "We created trails and roads as they seemed to
most naturally occur. It reminded us of something mystical, like coming
out of Sherwood Forest -- thus the name Avalon. The natural beauty of
the land evokes that same sense of peaceful tranquility."
In developing the land plan and plotting lots, Schwab approached the
land with a degree of reverence. More than 300 acres of the 645-acre
development will be left untouched in its natural state. "We want to
ensure the peaceful coexistence of humanity and wildlife. There are wild
turkeys and deer living in the natural, park-like habitat as well as
countless species of birds. This is not a place for a golf course, a
clubhouse, tennis courts, or a country club pool. The amenity here is
miles and miles of trails for walking and biking -- the things of
nature."
"Avalon offers the feeling of a quiet location removed from the fast
pace of urban living, yet it is still positioned in the middle of all
the conveniences of Cool Springs," says Steve Shalibo, managing broker
of Battle Ground Realty which represents Tennessee Valley Homes. "The
community created a lot of activity and interest before the first shovel
was put in the ground. We have a list of people waiting to know more
about startup, price ranges, and lot selection."
A total of 446 units, ranging in price from $250,000 to more than $1
million, will grace the landscape. The acreage will be divided into five
distinct neighborhoods -- for of which will be gated communities, all of
which are zoned for Williamson County schools including Ravenwood High
School.
The Meade of Avalon (257 units from $290,000 to $475,000) will
rest on the property's eastern edge bounded by Wilson Pike and McEwen
Drive. This community will feature townhomes, neo-traditional-style
homes and single-family homes built by Newmark Homes.
On the western portion of the property will be two sections bordering
Cool Springs Boulevard: The Village of Avalon (42 units, $450,000
to $600,000) and The Hamlet of Avalon (41 units, $650,000 to
$800,000). The lots are generally one-third acre in size and have been
purchased by Tennessee Valley Homes and Turnberry Homes for construction of
single-family residences.
The residents of both The Hamlet and The Village will know they
reside in a very special place. A brook will cross through both
neighborhoods and magnificent stone monuments will complement the
community entrances.
In the middle of the prized land will be The Vale of Avalon
(51 units, $800,000 to $1,800,000) and The Tors of Avalon
($800,000 and up). These homes will be nestled in the woods on spacious
lots maximizing privacy, views and the natural habitat.
"Avalon is something special that you will not find anywhere else,"
promises Schwab. "Once you enter the main gate, you will have the sense
that you are in the middle of the wilderness. My goal is to make it feel
like you're living in a State Park -- except that you're just
minutes away from Cool Springs and everything it has to offer."
In keeping with the Avalon theme, dozens of medieval images will
appear throughout the development. A castle facade with battle turrets
will camouflage a hillside water tower. Stone walls will be built
throughout the open green spaces. In the center of a pond at the main
entrance will be a lighted replication of King Arthur's sword in the
stone. As legend portrays, King Arthur withdrew the sword from the stone
to become King of Avalon.
"We know the quality of neighborhood The Principals Group will
deliver will be second to none in landscaping, design, and layout," says
Jimmy Franks, president of Tennessee Valley Homes. "We feel fortunate to
have been chosen as one of the builders."
Johnson closes by saying, "Envision your most peaceful setting --
swaying trees, gently falling rain, the fragrant aroma of woodlands,
cool breezes on a warm summer day, singing birds, fireflies at twilight.
That is Avalon, a legendary dream come true."
